January 2024

FreshBooks Payroll powered by Gusto

Businesses in the US can sign up for FreshBooks Payroll and payroll for employees, file payroll taxes, and maintain labor compliance.

Journal Entries section

See all manually created journal entries in a dedicated Journal Entries section.

FreshBooks in English (United Kingdom)

In your account settings, you can now choose to use your FreshBooks account in English (United Kingdom) which will automatically rename Estimates to Quotes instead.

February

Welcome video for accountant hub users

Accountant Hub users now have the option to view a welcome video walking through key features in the Accountant Hub.

March

Dashboard improvements

You can now hide dashboard graphs and customize the order of your dashboard graphs, including the newly added Revenue and Expenses graph.

April

Client accounts can now use advanced search to narrow down specific invoices they’ve received from other businesses.

Bulk download PDFs for received invoices

Businesses and client accounts can now download multiple received invoices as PDFs using bulk actions.

Timestamps Added to History

The invoice historyestimate history, and proposal history now includes timestamps for each event.

Filter clients by status

Accountant Hub users can now quickly filter their list of clients by status.

May

Trial countdown and onboarding checklist for clients

Accountant Hub users can now find the number of days left on their clients’ trial of FreshBooks as well as reference an onboarding checklist when setting up new clients.

Automated journal entries for payroll

When running payroll, journal entries are automatically written to your Chart of Accounts.

Duplicate expense checker

Any connected bank accounts via bank connections or bank rec also used for payroll runs will not import expenses automatically to avoid duplicate expenses.

June

Email change notification

Updating the email or password for your FreshBooks account now requires re-entering your current password. When the email is updated, an email change notification is sent to the original email address.

Client account navigation updates

The navigation experience has been updated along with a new Settings page for all business settings, and a new top menu for account settings.

FreshBooks Payments powered by Stripe

FreshBooks Payments powered by Stripe is now available for businesses in Canada and United States for online payment processing.

Review decline reasons for FreshBooks Payments and Stripe Standard Payments

Select any declined credit card transaction processed by FreshBooks Payments or Stripe Standard to review the reason for the decline.

August

Maintain search after delete

Deleting an entity from within the search results keeps the search active.

Email not delivered notification

Senders are notified with a new email notification if an emailed invoice, estimate, or proposal is not successfully delivered to the recipient.

September

Audit log for expenses

With the new Audit Log report you can track changes to expenses and invoices. To customize your view, filter by client, user, type of change, or entity type (expenses or invoices).

Import up to 365 days for eligible banks via Yodlee

When creating new Bank Connections with Yodlee, you can now import up to 365 days of transactions with eligible banks.

October

Historical payroll for new signups

New users signing up for FreshBooks Payroll now have option to include historical payroll runs from previous payroll providers before running their first payroll in FreshBooks.

November

Updated online payments settings

The All Transactions sub-section in the Online Payments Settings is now updated with quick filters and the ability to review payment details for each transaction.

Updated items and services

The updated items and services sections includes quick filters and the ability to duplicate an item or service.

Last imported added to Bank Reconciliation

All bank connections displayed in Bank Reconciliation now display the last imported on date for posted transactions.

Contractors in FreshBooks Payroll

You can now add 1099 contractors, run contractor payments while also paying at least one W-2 employee, and access the Contractor Payment report.

Financial Lock

Owners and Accountant – Full Access users can now use Financial Lock to prevent changes being made to invoices, invoice payments, and expenses during the locked period.

In Beta: Two-factor authentication is being added to FreshBooks logins.

Updated General Ledger Report

In Beta: The updated General Ledger report includes additional filters, customizable columns, and collapsible headers to help you view your General Ledger data.
